Creating a better planet one seed at a time, a non-government organization (NGO) based in Chennai, India is working on providing food for the birds as well as restoring the foliage of the city.
Founded by environmentalist, G. Mullaivanam, Tree Bank aims to give food and water for a variety of birds in the city such as parrots, pigeons, crows and mynas. Starting from May 20, the avian animals will be fed by the seeds of banyan tree, peepal tree, fig tree and cherry tree wherein their excretes would serve as fertilizers for planting trees.
Habitat also serves as a major problem for these animals in relation to the rapidly increasing deforestation brought by natural disasters which is why Tree Bank also plans to give free tree saplings to residents covered by the drive.
With over 350 volunteers who include students and professionals, Tree Bank aims to plant a tree in each 115 divisions of Chennai every day, providing a greener and more habitable surrounding for both humans and animals.
